Cleaning

General Care

  • Silver, Copper, and Gold-Plated Jewelry:
These metals naturally tarnish over time and require occasional cleaning.
    • Use a polishing cloth to remove light tarnishing, fingerprints, and smudges.
    • For heavier tarnishing, use a commercial liquid jewelry cleaner. Always follow the cleaner's instructions carefully—a quick 4–5 second dip is usually sufficient.
  • Gold-Plated Jewelry:
The gold layer may rub off if polished excessively. Avoid abrasive cleaning methods. Instead:
    • Use a liquid jewelry cleaner, following instructions precisely.
    • Avoid prolonged contact with the cleaner to preserve the gold plating.

Special Notes

  • Do NOT use liquid cleaners or chemicals on the following:
    • Pearls
    • Certain gemstones
    • Resins
    • Jewelry with oxidized (blackened) finishes
    • Non-waterproof items
  • Copper Jewelry:
For cleaning, use a natural solution like lemon juice. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to avoid residue.

Storage

  • Store jewelry properly to prevent tarnishing, scratching, and damage:
    • Use vinyl pouches or anti-tarnish bags to minimize exposure to air.
    • Store pieces separately to avoid scratching or tangling.
    • Keep jewelry away from:
      • Heat sources
      • Direct sunlight
      • Chemicals
      • Moisture and high humidity
    • For pearls, use a velvet pouch or soft fabric-lined storage. Avoid storing pearls in plastic bags, as they need to "breathe."

Wear and Care

  • Avoid wearing jewelry during activities that expose it to harsh conditions, such as:
    • Swimming (chlorinated or saltwater)
    • Showering
    • Exercising
    • Cleaning with chemicals
  • Apply jewelry after using cosmetics, hair sprays, or perfumes to minimize contact with potentially damaging substances.
  • Gold-Plated Jewelry:
To preserve plating, avoid wearing in water (e.g., ocean, swimming pools, showers).
  • Regularly inspect your jewelry for signs of wear, loose stones, or weakened settings to address any issues promptly.
